Microwave Hot Dogs

Sometimes making allergy safe meals everyday for my crew can be quite a task!  I get into a rut feeding them the same things day in and day out.  Most of the time they don’t mind and life runs smoothly, until……..suddenly their tastebuds revolt and the sight of another sunbutter and jelly sandwhich results in an epic meltdown to start our morning routine.  Working from home I can sleep in a bit before the morning rush starts, but that also means that I tend to be less prepared than I should.

However, when my ‘clan’ has a hankering for something different than what I normally serve for lunch I turn to my trusty microwave!

I have fond memories of my mom making us hot dogs in the microwave growing up.  She’d put the dog in the bun, twist up the hot dog like a salt water taffy in waxed paper, zap and done!  I like it cooked in the waxed paper as the steam from the hot dog builds up in the paper and keeps the bun nice and moist and the dog perfectly warmed.

Nice steamy, warm bun, juicy hot dog.  Great for lunch, dinner, cooking ‘out’ inside when it’s too hot you name it!  In less than 3 minutes I’ve got a nice hot, hot dog for the kid’s lunch ready to go.

Instructions
  1. You'll need your waxed paper for this. Place each hot dog into each hot dog bun. Roll up the hot dog in the waxed paper jellyroll style and twist the ends like a candy wrapper. Place in microwave for 1 1/2 minutes on high. You want to cook until hot and buns are soft. If hot dog is cold heat for 30 more seconds. Be careful to not overheat or the bun will harden. Let cool for a minute or two, unwrap and enjoy!
